"Unlocking the Future: How Five Million Coders Are Creating Five Billion Opportunities in the Digital Economy"

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In an ambitious move designed to catapult Ethiopia into the global tech scene, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, in conjunction with the United Arab Emirates, has launched the "5 Million Ethiopian Coders" initiative. This groundbreaking program aims to train 5 million young Ethiopians in coding and digital skills, setting the stage for a transformative wave across the nation's economy and workforce.

The partnership between Ethiopia and the UAE builds upon the success of the One Million Arab Coders initiative, launched in 2017 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This new venture expands on the foundational goals set by its predecessor, aspiring to empower a significant portion of Ethiopia’s youthful population.

At the launching event, “The Prime Minister of Ethiopia stated that by focusing our educational efforts on preparing our children for the future, there is hope for Ethiopia."  

As we pivot towards a digitized economy, the skills imparted through this initiative will not merely prepare our youth for the jobs of tomorrow but will enable Ethiopia to become a hub of innovation in Africa.

Ethiopia, with one of the youngest and fastest-growing populations in Africa, is uniquely positioned to embrace and leverage the tech revolution sweeping across the globe. However, challenges such as access to technology and education disparities have historically impeded such advancements.
